GRNSW introduced a rule in 2012 that created an exemption for eye drops to be used for greyhounds affected by Pannus.
This means that greyhounds registered with GRNSW as being affected by Pannus are allowed to race without penalty while undergoing treatment with Prednefrin Forte eye drops. This policy only applies to greyhounds racing in NSW.
Pannus, or chronic superficial keratitis, is a common condition seen in greyhounds that affects the surface of the eye. If left untreated, it can cause visual impairment.
The exemption for Prednefrin Forte eye drops is only granted after owners and/or trainers follow a prescribed process which formally records their greyhound as Pannus affected with GRNSW.
Notification of Pannus affected greyhounds must be done using the prescribed form available here.
