Gosford Abandonment

Greyhound Racing New South Wales (GRNSW) advises that the Gosford meeting on Friday, 2 February was abandoned due to safety concerns about the state of the track.

Stewards received a phone call from the Gosford Club Racing Manager at approximately 11:55am who stated that he had concerns with the state of the track after constant rain & drizzle during the morning.

The track had been harrowed on Wednesday 31/1/2018. Stewards inspected the track on arrival at approximately 12:10pm and felt that the track was soft.

Stewards then undertook a penotrometer readings in the critical parts of the track, approaching the first turn, passing the catching pen and entering the back straight. Readings were taken in approximately 300mm increments from the rail to the outside of the track and ranged from 2-8, well below the guidelines of 25-40.

Stewards conferred with the club secretary and a unanimous decision was made to abandoned the meeting due to the track not being safe for racing.

Stewards began contacting trainers to advise them of the abandonment.
