GRNSW News
GRNSW today launched the new updated Greyhound Care Scheme 2.0.

GCS 2.0 is now a streamlined, professional and reliable model which will see those injured greyhounds go from the track, to triage, to surgery, and will give participants access to financial support of up to $3,500 towards the costs of surgery, provide outstanding medical and surgical support, and in turn take the financial pressure of participants in what is already a stressful situation.

Below we clarify some of the differences between the original GCS and this new GCS 2.0.
  • GRNSW now has service agreements with participating vets in place so there is no running around to find which a veterinary hospital which is open for an emergency - it is all arranged by GRNSW beforehand.
  • Immediate triage and stabilisation by participating vets who are on-call and waiting if required – this is now covered by a separate cap of $1,200
  • Automatic emergency transport which GRNSW now pays for is there waiting if required. Club Managers no longer need to find and organise transport from the track, nor does the owner or trainer have to immediately leave the track, particularly when they have other greyhounds engaged.
  • Different levels of financial assistance based on competitive pricing and quality service so the participant does not need to chase up quotes for services.
  • GRNSW’s Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Alex Brittan has worked extensively to build the network of eight trusted veterinary hospitals.
  • Only orthopaedic surgeons with substantial greyhound surgery experience have been engaged, not just general small animal practices. These vets have demonstrated excellent surgical outcomes for seriously injured greyhounds in the past and are trusted by industry.
  • Faster internal process with payments within 10 days.
  • GCS 2.0 will replace the Race Injury Rebate Scheme and has a simplified single page application for single scheme to cover serious injuries sustained whilst racing.
  • No automatic entry to Greyhounds As Pets.
  • No return to racing or breeding if you choose to use GCS 2.0

The Greyhound Care Scheme 2.0 will commence July 1, 2023.
