An additional $250,000 in prizemoney will be paid to participants in coming months following a new racing schedule released today by Greyhound Racing NSW.

The new schedule, which comes into effect on October 18 for a six-month trial period, features the following changes:

The injection of extra funding comes after GRNSW decided to boost prizemoney for Richmond’s new Wednesday night slot while maintaining current levels for Wentworth Park’s new Friday night fixtures.

“I’m delighted that GRNSW is in a position to increase prizemoney to participants through the addition of a new Provincial Plus prizemoney level to the midweek Richmond meeting,” GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Rob Macaulay said.

“The prizemoney increase comes after feedback and consultation following the floated changes to Wentworth Park’s Wednesday meeting, where we received strong feedback from participants and stakeholders.

“The main consensus was that regardless of where it was moved to, Wentworth Park should continue to race for the same prizemoney levels as Wednesday night, and we have ensured this will happen.

“We expect that both slots for City midweek prizemoney will be welcomed. It continues the drive by the Board of GRNSW to find efficiencies and to increase returns to participants through prizemoney.

“Participants racing midweek at Richmond will now have more than $30,000 a night more prizemoney. In turn, at Wentworth Park GBOTA have announced additional travel money up to $100/dog to combat tolls and fuel, and free dinner for all trainers. We will be very keen to see how successful it can be in a premium slot.”
